Ear Wax Removal

Wax production in the ear canal is a natural process. Some people may use cotton swabs to remove excess wax build up, but this method is not recommended due to the risk involved to your eardrum. You may have ear wax build up if you are experiencing sudden hearing loss, pressure in your ear, tinnitus or earache.  Ear wax removal is best left to trained professionals who can help you to restore your hearing safely. Touchwood Pharmacy is pleased to offer private ear wax removal services in Northampton, Streatham, Sydenham, and Norholt.

Ear Syringing

This method of ear wax removal is one of the most commonly used. It is also referred to as ear irrigation because a stream of water is used in the loosening and removal of your ear wax. This procedure is gentle and can be performed within minutes in our pharmacy consultation room.  Before agreeing to this process of ear wax removal, it is important to know for sure that any loss of hearing you may be experiencing is indeed due to ear wax build up. This can be confirmed by your GP and will ensure ear syringing is right for you.

Ear Microsuction

This method of ear wax removal is also offered at our pharmacy locations including our pharmacies in Bromley, Walsall and Lichfield. It is a good alternative for those who may have sensitive ears and who might find the process of ear syringing uncomfortable. Ear microsuction is conducted through the use of a miniscule vacuum which is inserted into the ear canal. If any blockages are not visibly apparent, the trained pharmacist conducting the procedure may also use a specialised camera to locate and confirm your ear wax build up.If you’re experiencing any troublesome symptoms that are affecting your ability to hear, speak to the pharmaceutical professionals at Touchwood Pharmacy regarding how we can help. We offer ear wax removal services across our pharmacy locations in Ramsgate, Camberley, Leighton Buzzard and Hanwell.

How Do I Prepare for My Appointment?

It may take more than one attempt to remove your wax- so to prepare for your appointment, we recommend using an olive oil product to soften the wax beforehand. Apply olive oil drops or spray Earol (twice a day) from the day you book the appointment, until the day of the appointment (5-7 days). (Always read the label). This may serve to assist in the quick removal of wax.
